The Green Valley Spa Experience – Day 6. B-12 Shots, Mind Map, and “Spiritual Cougars.”

6:15 am B-12 Shot. Wake up, drink some water (trying to drink a gallon per day), head to the Grand Hall for breakfast and a B-12 shot. I would never do this at home. It is so fun to try new stuff here. Most of the things do not involve needles, however. I am not sure I notice a difference. My friend at home gets B-12 IVs (eek!) and swears by them.

7.00 am Hiking. Even though this is my third year at Green Valley Spa, I had not been on this hike before. We saw petroglyphs from the Anasazi Native Americans who disappeared in or around 1080. Here are some photos:

11.00 am Acquacize. This was GREAT. The pool temperature was perfect. The workout was awesome. I’ve been running pretty regularly and it is so nice to do something that involves no joint stress. The pool is surrounded by roses and the casitas. It is just beautiful. Eloise broke out some hard core ’80s retro. Think: “What I Like About You” by The Romantics.

12:00 am Lunch. Today – hmmmm – what did I eat today. I am having a hard time remembering since I was so deprived and didn’t partake in my daily nap. Oh, yeah – it was spinach with a grilled fish on top. The water (in pitchers on the table) today had orange and mint in it.

I really love how Green Valley Spa has specific meal times. It adds structure to my day. It is that kind of repetition of the daily schedule here that gives me some real take-home relaxation. Sort of like I’ve been in relaxation boot camp. Also, it gets your body on a regular eating schedule (one of my goals) and you get to know the great folks who come here. As I mentioned, this is a very laid back place. It is not a primadonna spandex factory. (Dudes are out here too. My husband is DYING to come out. But, we have to arrange a separate trip. I need my girl time.)

1.00 pm Stretch. Eloise. Need I say more. It was great. My hamstrings and I.T. bands feel so much better after these classes. We have these great padded mats. At the end of class, Eliose turns down the lights and we close our eyes. I actually fell asleep. When Eloise started talking to end the class, I was like, “What is this woman doing talking in my bedroom?” Talk about relaxed.

2.00 pm Tarot card reading with Marlene. Marlene and her friend Gwen – who both work with the spa – do what some people may call more “out there” services like Tarot card reading. My aunt, Eydie and I went in for a reading. My aunt Sharon was SUPER skeptical. She is pretty major in the mental health community, and research and results are what get her attention. Well, by the end of the “mini reading” Marlene gave each of us Sharon was asking for another full reading tomorrow. Marlene answers the phone before it rings and answers the door before someone arrives. She’s one of those. You know, like the chick from Medium.

Eydie had two cards Marlene described as “two young men” who are Eydie’s “guides.” I called Eydie “a spiritual cougar.” I got The Heirophant. Marlene says I am the one who goes down the path first and stubs my toe so I can teach others. I just hope it doesn’t leave a mark. She says I need to watch out for worrying. There was much more to it than this, but, I need to hurry as (gasp) I have a massage appointment.

4.00 Mind Map. I had a mind map with Annalee Allred who is an incredible woman. She works with auras and colors. She is super gorgeous, tall, blonde, and wears a power suit (spa version). So, I sat there having no idea what to expect. She holds up a series of colors in front of me and they either go on the table (keep) or she trashes them. Apparently, I am a color-hoarder and tried to keep all the colors (i.e., many vibrated or something like that when she held them up to me). At one point I felt a bit bizarre, like I had a Red Bull or something. She then says, “Are you feeling this?” I wasn’t sure what was going on. “Which card did you feel?” she asked me. I pointed to the indigo card. That is also the one she felt. That is my numero uno strongest color, says Annalee. Apparently this means I am “plugged in” and she points up. You know, I always have liked ceiling fans. Seriously, the things Annalee (Mind Map) and Marlene (Tarot) said both really overlapped. I am thinking of running a spa sting operation to figure out if they have ear pieces and feed each other info.

5.00 pm Massage with Kim. Based on my previous posts, I think everyone knows how I feel about the massage therapists here. I’ll stop being annoying, however, must give them another shout out. Ros -a guest – told me she had a good facial with Carol the other day. I did not get any facials this time. I prefer to focus on the massages and get one “waterfall” hot oil treatment.

In the past I have gotten the pearl body scrub, and even a spray tan! Who knows what else I’ll be able to get next year. They keep expanding their services in the spirit of a real, traditional spa: It’s not just about pampering. It’s about health, wellness, and giving yourself time away from stress. There is something special here. Everybody says it.

6:00 pm Dinner. Chicken with Chinese Five Spice and cabbage. Delicious! I am in a mild coma from the massage. Try.To.Speak.Sound.Like.Frankenstein.

7.00 pm Sharon & Eydie’s room. We head back to Sharon and Eydie’s residence for some laughs. It is the last night, and I am excited to see my husband and kids, and bummed out all at the same time.

Here is what we are watching tonight:

I feel such a sense of comfort knowing this is “my thing” that I do each year and that I’ll be back. I look forward to it all year.

I have enjoyed reading your spa experiences! Thank you for sharing! I have not heard of “Mind Map” before, but it sounds interesting (although I admit to being a skeptic like your aunt)

Love your blog and I’m remembering how much I loved this place. After visiting for a week I always felt so relaxed – like I’d been away for a much longer time. God willing and the creek don’t rise I’ll be joining you at Green Valley next year! Babs

Tracy – thanks for your comment. Through a highly scientific process in which Sharon and Eydie chose numbers, you are the WINNER of the Green Valley Spa Swag! Randy will be in touch with you. Congrats!
