The Green Valley Spa Experience – Day 1 – Let the Relaxation Begin!

7.25 am I am walking through the halogen-lit, swine-flu flyered, over-air conditioned airport. I am elated. I know what’s coming. This is my 3rd year going to Green Valley Spa. It’s a gift to feel school-girl (giggle) excited over something.

7.30 I stop for my obligatory guilty-pleasure magazines
: US and Entertainment and stash them in my Tranquil Space bag which I have brought with me to channel the mojo of Yoga/Zen icon Kimberly Wilson. I’ve also packed a couple of items from her highly-addictive TranquiliT clothing line. Other items: An iPod, my Kindle, hiking boots, work out clothes, and one “normal” outfit. Conspicuously absent: My laptop.

8.00 There is a flight delay, I think we all know what this means:

1:58 pm (Las Vegas time) My aunt and her friend Eydie pick me up at the airport after “power shopping” (they arrived yesterday). Let me take a moment to acknowledge the incredible women I just mentioned, to whom I also refer as:

Those who showed me the way

*****

Dear Sharon and Eydie (and mom, if you will ever get your hind quarters out here)

Thank you

Thank you for showing me that one week is the MINUMUM that should be spent at Green Valley Spa

Thank you for showing me how to use frequent flyer miles to fly to Las Vegas, then take the shuttle down to St. George

Thank you for empowering me to to get a treatment EVERY DAY, and that is is the only way

Thank you, because, were it not for you – I would do a long weekend and one massage

******

Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

5.40 pm Arrive at Green Valley Spa. Walk around grounds.

Here is the Green Valley Spa pool (one of 3 outdoor pools)…

and there is an indoor pool too, and a Vic Braden tennis center, and a new weight loss clinic they run, and a whole condo section for families. That is not even touching the activities, hikes, etc.

7:10 Head to relaxation room for treatment

Here is the Green Valley Relaxation Room.

Folks hang out here and drink tea and read before treatments. I had a massage with Matt today. He does a lot of Thai massage stuff. What can I say? Coma-inducing level of relaxation. A massage at Green Valley is not a normal massage. Green Valley Spa is VERY snobby about their massage therapists. It will – hands-down – be one of the top 5 massages of your life. (For those of you saying, “Massage, what? I don’t get massages.” Try getting a bad back, then you’ll get more massages. No, seriously, you can also get scrubs, self tan, facials, and all sorts of stuff.) Also, you go to get a special bath or shower (by yourself – no worries bath house phobia folks) where you use their cool products. I am a sucker for all of this. Here is “sand” exfoliant and “radiance” moisturizer which I use as part of my massage prep.

9.00 pm Back to my Aunt and Eydie’s room for wine and girl talk. “Room” is hardly appropriate. It is a suite on steroids. More pics throughout this blog series. I guess you don’t get to be the number one mid-size spa in the US and one of the top three spas in the world without some killer accommodations.

This is what we are laughing about tonight: “Breaking Bad News with Baby Animals” by Amanda McCall and Ben Schwartz. It is so bad, but hilarious.
